LIFTING ATTACHMENT FOR THE OSWESTRY STANDING FRAME

Background.

The Oswestry Standing frame has been available on the market for the past 26 years and is designed for use by paraplegics, hemiplegics and tetraplegics. Due to the severity of the patientís lesion it requires a minimum of two carers to manoeuvre the user to a standing position. Following consultation with various users it was found that there was an increasing demand for a device which would enable the patient to be lifted safely and with the minimum of effort which could be utilised at home as well as at the hospital.

1. Electically operated lifters to be mounted on subframe to allow easy conversion of existing equipment. Possibility of a stopping system to be developed and attached.

2. Capable of lifting patints up to 130Kg (20st)

3. Seat slings made in medium and large sizes.

4. Electronic lifter to have up and down control either remotely operated i.e. infra red or cable link. Possible variable speed control mounted out of reach to regulate lifting bar from 15rpm to 25rpm.

5. Initial testing at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic hospital has shown that the manual lifter does not present unwarranted pressure on the knees.

6. Plus point. Patients feel extra comfort when released back to sitting position as sudden movements are eliminated.

7. Electronic lifter can be used unaided by the patient.
